Good data, minor rate limit issue

I signed up for the free tier to test out their Real-time Crypto Exchange Rates API for a personal project. The data accuracy was impressive, and the JSON response was clean and easy to parse. My only small gripe was hitting the rate limits a bit quicker than I expected initially, which meant a quick re-think of my polling strategy. Upgrading to a paid plan seems like the next logical step to avoid this. Overall, a solid service, and the developer documentation was quite helpful.

Easy API key setup

Needed a Bitcoin API for a small script. Got my API key quickly after signing up. The data was accurate and delivered fast. No issues integrating it. Good service.

Historical Data API worked great!

I was building out a new app and needed reliable historical crypto data. The Historical Crypto Data API from Coinlayer was perfect! Setup was super easy, and the data was exactly what I needed. I even tested it against some other sources, and it was consistently accurate. I'm definitely going to use their other APIs for future projects and will recommend Coinlayer to my dev friends. Great stuff!

I saw something about a developer trial. Is that different from the free tier? What's the deal?

S Sofia P. 4 days ago
I think the 'developer trial' is basically just their free tier, just a different name for it. It's meant for devs to test things out. Same limits I believe.

It's just their way of saying 'hey, try our free API'. Don't expect anything super secret, it's the standard free plan.

Anyone know if they do special discounts for Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Trying to time my subscription.

A Adam Scott 3 weeks ago
They usually do! I snagged a pretty sweet deal last Cyber Monday for an annual plan. Worth waiting if you can.

Yeah, Q4 seems to be when they drop stuff. Black Friday is a safe bet for a promo code or something.

Hey, wondering if anyone's tried the free tier for Coinlayer? What are the limitations like, is it useful for just testing things out?

M Michelle Harris 1 week ago
Yeah, I used it to kick the tires. It's pretty basic, like 100 requests per month and only current prices. Good enough to see if their API works for you though.

M Megan Torres 1 week ago
It's decent for basic stuff. Don't expect historical data or anything, but for seeing how to pull live prices it's fine. Upgraded after a week.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime? Or am I locked into a contract?

A Amanda White 3 weeks ago
You can cancel whenever, but you won't get a refund for the current period you've paid for. So if you pay annually, you're good for that year.
5
L Linda Young 3 weeks ago
Yeah, no problem cancelling. Just remember if you paid for a year, you get to use it till that year's up, then it just won't renew.

Thinking of signing up, but I'm in Canada. Will the pricing be in USD or CAD? And what payment options are there?

R Richard Miller 12 hours ago
It's all USD pricing from what I remember. For payments, I just used my credit card, pretty standard.
6
D Deborah W. 4 hours ago
Yeah, USD. They take credit cards mostly, I think PayPal might be an option too but don't quote me on that. Pretty sure it's just cards.

Is Coinlayer data actually real-time? I need really fast updates for a trading bot project.

A Ashley Martinez 1 month ago
They do have a WebSocket option that streams data, which is about as real-time as you can get. The regular API is fast, but WebSockets are probably what you need for a bot.
6
D Daniel Miller 1 month ago
Yeah, their docs talk about WebSockets for high-frequency stuff. I just use the regular API and it's plenty fast for my use, but a bot is different.

Are there any promo codes floating around for the Professional plan? Trying to get a small discount on that.

M Michelle R. 1 week ago
Usually, the biggest 'discount' is just going for the annual billing, saves you like 20% right there. Sometimes they have specific event codes, but they're rare.

P Patricia Davis 1 week ago
I've seen some scattered 10-15% codes during specific sales, but your best bet is the annual plan. Check if any 'new user' codes are still active, sometimes those apply to upgrades too.
